Hi there.
I'm Alex!
A UX Designer
In transition from 10 years of architectural design to a more human-centered design approach.
I’ve always been a creative person, so I thought Architecture would be the perfect career path for me. However, after working for more than ten years in the field of Architecture, I realised that Architecture was not sparking joy in my life, and found myself burnt out. It wasn’t as fulfilling as it once was, and I struggled to keep up with developer and client demands of valuing quantity of units and maximizing square footage, over the quality and livability of the homes and spaces that I was contracted to design. I loved the initial ideating, conceptualising and problem solving but didn’t feel very creative when designing given the client constraints.
Thankfully, I discovered UX! It was the perfect combination of design, user experience, and creativity that I was looking for, plus it's a lot more human centered and personally fulfilling. UX combined all of my favourite aspects of design and the digital space allowed me to be even more creative with my ideas. I still enjoy architecture, but I see it more as an art that I admire and appreciate.
Looking back, I’ve been attempting to design and focus on human-centred experiences in my Architecture projects the whole time! I was always focusing on how the users would interact with the space and based my designs on user research and psychology. Feel free to check out a few of my architecture projects in the tab above.
